CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Customer rating stars Nifty little device Posted: 06 September 2010
Cool gadget which helps a lot with the more minor cutting tasks in the garden. Not too heavy, decent battery life, relative easy to use although not the best in build quality, but for that price it's good value for money.

Customer rating stars Easy to use but with enough power as well. Posted: 31 July 2010
Very easy to use - plus safer than a chainsaw - great for trimming branches and even cutting small trees. My wife would not use the B&D cordless chainsaw I also have - but finds this one perfect and uses it frequently now. Not too heavy and battery pack gives decent life - although you may want to consider a second battery if doing a 'lot' of cutting.

The charger is one of the standard (fairly dumb) 8 hour charger instead of one of the fast 1-2 hour chargers - but for the price I suppose that is to be expected.

However, here's a solution to consider - if you may need / may want a drill consider the 'Black & Decker HP188F4BK 18V Hammer Drill' - it comes with 2 x 18v batteries and the faster / smart charger. The batteries are interchangeable so that way you would have a total of 3 batteries and a smart charger (plus the drill of course which is good as well). For the current selling price it's a great option as two of the 18v batteries on their own are about the same price as the drill, batteries and charger package - so you effectively get the drill and smart charger for free.

So overall - highly recommended.

Customer rating stars alligator chain saw Posted: 11 July 2010
I heartily recommend this item if you need to lop tree branches or small whole trees. I originally purchased an ordinary chain saw but was "ordered" by my family to return it. At 78 they thought I should'nt be let loose with it! It works very well and is safer than the ordinary chain.

Customer rating stars Takes the hard work out of cutting wood Posted: 18 May 2010
I have been very impressed by this tool. I have just spent several afternoons clearing an overgrown garden and clearing low branches off trees and the Alligator has easily doubled the amount of work that I could have done the old-fashioned way (handsaw, loppers and lots of elbow-grease). It goes through very thick brambles, thicker sticks and occasional sturdy branches up to the maximum width of the jaws (about 5 inches) like a hot knife through butter. You will probably need two batteries as the supplied charger takes ~ 6 hours to charge them - after emptying two batteries you should have a good heap of cut wood to show for your efforts. You need to read the instructions quite carefully as they aren't particularly well laid out - if the chain jams after cutting lots of green twigs there is a cover that you can unscrew to get access in order to clear the jam - (it has only happened once, but it took me a while to figure out that I had missed this on a quick read-through of the manual).

I have had a ball, cut down everything in sight, this is great, I would say though that you need an extra battery, it is so good you do not want to stop whan the battery runs out!! It is very easy to use I am only 5 foot 3 and a small build and I have no problems.

After a couple of months the battery has to be charged for about 16 hours and lasts half an hour if you are lucky, buy one with a cord!
